I have always been disappointed that the Realm of Torment did not look twisted as it did in the concept art, to me it looked really, really twisted and evil, as a heap of flesh stuck and down together to create a plain but the textures used just made it look much more comical.

The concept art is amazing. I give it a 10.
Unfortunately they made the game about killing retarded, predictable AI over and over again. So the atmosphere in the art is completely non-existent.

to OP, i hope that they take GW2 in a darker more mature direction, i think the game would be a lot cooler and indepth if it was done that way.

Its funny.. Since when did slapping MMO in front of one of the best genres of gaming, produce one of the lowest and "least respected" genres ever? To me its just sad, because you see; RPG's are simply amazing. What other games out there can provide such a challenge for your mental/tactical/reflex and even social (Baldur's Gate II?) gaming skills in such a way and so consistently with characters to care about, progress to make and a great plot to boot! Currently some games that do this theory justice are Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Still has rpg elements, its not all "adventure gaming"), Mass Effect, Oblivion, and maybe even (dare I say) Too Human when it comes out.
I mean really, I know people love action games like DMC4 and what not, but in the end... If you had to choose Final Fantasy or DMC?... You'd pick FF. Its because RPG's are like a book, while other genres are like movies. A quick fix... You jump on an FPS just for that quick kill and savoring of the victory. The exception to this rule being Half Life 2 (woot woot woot woot \o/)
All I'm trying to say is I think MMORPG's should concentrate on how to give that single player rpg experience, on a massive scale. I think the whole Hunt/Quest system is broken, we need something more similar to Oblivion, grinding should never occur, the game should always be telling a story. Never just "I want phat lewt", "I want to get to level 3". MMO's in general need to become immersive.

I bought the box sets, and purposely played and beat the games first then looked at the concept art booklets afterwards to escape any dissapointment. Yes, I'm with the OP, if the ingame art and the concept art were one and the same, GuildWars would be out of this world.

comparing Guild War concept art translation into it's game art and other mmorpg's concept art translation into their respective game art, I'd say Guild Wars development team has done the greatest job

While the GW Art Team is especially really good, I gotta say that it is their modelers that probably aren't that great. You wanna know why all the armors in GWEN were reskins? Because the modelers were lazy, thats why. I really hope Anet finds some top notch modelers to help better translate the feel of the concept art for GW2.....because the art is so beautiful.
